Users no longer trust social media platforms according to new study / Digital Information World
Trust is the name of the game when it comes to social platforms, and a consumer will only enjoy good digital trust if they are confident that their social media platform of choice will protect their data and secure their content in line. . Despite the fact that this is the case, it seems that social media platforms fail to meet the needs of their consumers. The sixth iteration of Insider informationThe annual survey sheds some light on this issue.
This survey was conducted between May and June 2022 and involves asking questions of approximately 2,225 US-based adults. All of these users were between the ages of 18 and 75, so they represent the vast majority of the population of the United States. With all of that said and now dismissed, it is important to note that trust in social media platforms has plummeted over the past three years.
Facebook is the worst offender here. In 2020, around 30% of Facebook users felt they could trust the platform. That’s now down to just 18%, showing just how untrustworthy Facebook has become, everything considered and considered. However, Facebook is not the only social media platform to have seen a decline in user trust.
The second least trusted platform turned out to be Twitter, with only 23% of respondents saying they felt they could trust the social media company. This figure has fallen from a relatively flat 40% in 2019, so Twitter is also experiencing a similar drop in reliability and, in fact, its drop in these figures has been even more drastic than Facebook’s.
The rising social media star that is TikTok also faces many problems on this front. In 2020, around 41% of TikTok users said they could trust the platform. This figure has now fallen to just 24% by 2022.
Moving on to Instagram, this social media company gives Meta no relief. Only 25% of Instagram users say they trust the platform, down from 41% previously. Interestingly, slightly more users trust Instagram than TikTok, which could impact the growth rate of the Chinese app in the future.
All of this suggests that user trust in social media platforms is at an all-time low. They can no longer afford to ignore this problem, although some like Facebook will certainly try to act as if there was no problem in the first place.
