In a virtual discussion organized as part of Reading Month 2022, education experts debated the role of media in a changing world and spoke about creating quality content.

Dr Ahmed Al-Mansoori, Head of the Department of Media and Creative Industries at United Arab Emirates University, said: “In light of the rapid technological developments that have left their mark on the media scene, particularly the production quality media content that respects people’s minds, today’s media students need to learn basic skills: reading, tracking and intelligent content selection.‏ »

Dr. Khalaf Al Tahat from the Department of Media and Creative Industries at UAE University stressed that today’s media professionals are required to do more to protect serious media content that serves the interests audience by providing multiple sources and balanced information carriers that respect people’s minds.

“Media professionals must not allow rumors to pass and must stop misleading information that disrupts the energies and efforts of governments,” he added.

Al Tahat also noted that the continuous review, exploration and reading of new products are the most important tools for maintaining performance quality and distinguishing media from non-media in an open space in which there is a total mess in the production of information‏.‏

The UAE University’s Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences has launched a “virtual reading corner” to coincide with UAE Reading Month activities.

Professor Saif Al Mahrouqi, also from the United Arab Emirates University, said: “Convinced of the importance of reading in upgrading the culture of the individual and society, the idea of ​​the corner virtual reading room has aligned with the news in light of the pandemic. and the transition to the virtual world.”

He added, “Through the Virtual Reading Corner, we will publish a book that will be nominated by the public, summarizing and highlighting its value and benefits to the reader on a weekly basis.”

Dr. Ghanima Al-Yamahi, an Arabic language teacher, said the “virtual reading corner” is a means of communication between the public and writers in a life where the individual spends most of the time browsing the networks social media, websites or ‎YouTube Videos.

“We will learn through this initiative the number of readers and the content of their readings, and will benefit from their opinions and impressions of the books on offer.”
