“Media Smart” – improving media literacy among young people

By Aaron Humes: The U.S. Embassy in Belize is promoting a three-month training to help teachers and students become more knowledgeable consumers of traditional and modern media.

“Media Smart” has been described as a program aimed at improving media literacy among young adults, while combating misinformation.

A succession of journalists present their ideas on media literacy and how young people consume media, and recall the obligations of both sides: to present the truth about the day’s activities locally and internationally in the case of the houses while educating and in some cases entertaining, and for young people to recognize their value as potential content creators as well as consumers – for example, by posting videos of alleged police brutality or producing “explanatory” videos for Tik Tok.

Participants include LOVE FM’s Dale McDougal, Channel 7’s Cherisse Halsall, Channel 5’s Marlene Cuellar and others.
