Plans have been made by the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN) in conjunction with Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), to hold an event titled, the Nigeria Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards (NEMCEA).
The organizers, in a statement, said the inaugural three-day program set to be held annually is to bring stakeholders from around the world into the media industry space to buy, sell, collaborate, aggregate , exchange ideas on content and also highlight problems and perspectives. fringes of the media industry in Nigeria in particular and across Africa.
EMCOAN Chairman Jibe Ologeh said that Nigeria has one of the largest electronic media content markets in Africa but lacks a content market to cater to its electronic media content and its growing film industry.
“This is the void that NEMCEA is here to fill and is open to all broadcast content producers and other stakeholders across media,” she said.
She said the event is expected to be signaled by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-olu, while the keynote address will be delivered by the Vice-President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege.
Event Director Theophilus Akatugba said, “We have over 150 public and private TV channels and over 350 independent TV content and film production companies, the presence of global content delivery platforms and locals like Netflix, Showmax, IrokoTV and dvdexcite, among others; it is high time that we had a very well organized electronic content and film market to serve as a marketplace for the exchange of media content, films and the development of local and international co-production partnerships”.
He added that the awards ceremony would be held during the grand finale for different categories of broadcast content and submission of content for the awards could be done online.
