4 social media platforms to check out in 2023

Staying on top of every change in social media isn’t always easy. To make it a little simpler, Alessandro Bogliari of The Influencer Marketing Factory gives us four platforms to watch in 2023.

Social media platforms are constantly evolving and there are always new ones to discover. If you’re tired of missing out on the latest platforms and trends, read on for a list of some of the best new social media platforms to watch in 2023.

Although TikTok has grown rapidly in recent years, it’s still an app in its infancy and the possibilities for brands are endless.

TikTok is a social media platform that allows users to create and share short video clips. Users can also add filters, text, music and special effects to their videos. What I personally love about TikTok are its sub-communities and niche audience, and the fact that many videos on the platform are more than just silly clips. They link together remixes of other TikTok or YouTube videos, sometimes referencing internet subcultures, TV shows and songs (think all those 70s and 80s songs that have become popular again the last two years thanks to TikTok).

TikTok’s user base has grown exponentially, making it a no-brainer for many brands. The popularity of the platform with influencer marketers would also be boomingwith #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt and the new features of TikTok Live and TikTok Shopping Ads.

Although the app has been around for several years, today it remains one of the fastest growing platforms on the internet for both brands and creators.

2. Be real

BeReal is one of the new social media platforms we all watch. It’s for people who want to share instant photos and experiences.

Created in France in 2019, it sends you daily notifications at random times, asking you to take two photos at once: one with your front camera and one with your back camera. You have two minutes to take a picture of what you are doing at the time.

BeReal could be the perfect way to connect with other people around the world. What’s interesting is that TikTok recently launched a BeReal-inspired feature called TikTok Now. This tells us that there is interest in such a feature across all platforms. Now is the perfect time for brands to start leveraging BeReal.

Dedicate a team member each week to be the face of your brand on BeReal. It’s a great way to capture behind-the-scenes content and show what the day-to-day work looks like for your brand. Next working conference? Be prepared to show your team in action.

Remember when everyone said TikTok was only for teenagers? Imagine the missed opportunities for many companies if they had listened.

Since we do not know when you will be invited to take your photo on BeReal, it will be essential to plan in advance who will be connected and who will represent your brand.

3. Discord

Discord is a voice and text chat app originally popular with gamers that now attracts tech brands and creators from around the world. It exists since 2015 and has has grown rapidly in recent years. Discord has gained popularity among the gaming community because its easy-to-use interface allows you to link multiple devices together.

It offers channels, such as WhatsApp groups or Slack teams. They are great for organizing your community around topics like video games or cryptocurrency.

Discord is popular among blockchain enthusiasts because it’s an easy way for brands looking to get more involved with web3 to create their own blockchain communities (Telegram is another great platform).

If you want to create and manage your community (yes, “community”, not “audience”), Discord is one of the best options.

4. Mixes by Pinterest

In July 2022, Pinterest soft-launched a new app called Shuffles. This is a mobile-only app (currently iOS-only and invite-only) that allows users to create collages collectively. A great opportunity for brands is that every element used in every collage links back to the creator and product on Pinterest.

This new social media platform has a lot of potential for influencer marketing partnerships with the Shuffles app.

Creators who use both the Shuffles app and Pinterest can collaborate with brands in all kinds of ways. For example, travel agencies could partner with travel influencers to create travel-themed collages to generate interest in specific travel destinations or products. Or influencers could create brand-specific buying guides for different brands, linking to each individual product. Essentially, every brand has the ability to create a Shuffle that showcases their products or services.

Always be ready to try new platforms, but remember that with the introduction of new platforms come new strategies that you can use to your advantage. Working with a reputable agency can help you stay on top of these changes.
