‘Cool Calvin and Hobbes Collection’ Turns 10!

December 17th, 2006 · 1 Comment

Birthday HobbesBack in 1996, I launched my very first website - a fan site to the comic strip ‘Calvin and Hobbes’. I didn’t know much about IT back then, but it was enough to get me interested and this one website is what got me started in my IT career. By 1999, I had finished uni and had a full-time job and so I stopped updating the site.

Fast forward to 2006, and the CC&HC was looking a bit pathetic, dated and cringeworthy (what was I thinking with that design). I couldn’t stand it anymore and launched into a complete redesign of the site. I have to say I’m really pleased with the new look - I’m not embarrassed to show people the site :) And amazing what a redesign can do for your visitor count. The content is mostly the same, yet I now get 2-3x the visitors I used to get, and my Google ranking has jumped about 30 places. I never thought one of my websites would make it to 10 years!!

It is great indeed! The only thing I think would have been cool to do is keep the old version archived somewhere for nostalgia’s sake, but otherwise the redesign was excellent. Last I check it was a page 2 result on a google search for “Calvin and Hobbes” as well :-)
